Trustees  

The Grosvenor Estate is owned by a number of Trustees. The Duke is Chairman of the Trustees.

The role of the Trustees is to preserve and enhance the interests of the Grosvenor Family and the reputation of the Grosvenor Estate as a socially responsible organisation.

Chairman

The Duke of Westminster KG CB CVO OBE TD CD DL married Natalia Phillips in 1978 and they have one son and three daughters.  The Duke is Chairman of the Trustees of the Grosvenor Estate which includes all the family’s business interests: Grosvenor, the international property group, which has operating businesses in the UK, USA and the Asia Pacific region and a Fund Management business that operates across these markets as well as Continental Europe and Australia; Wheatsheaf Investments Limited which operates primarily in the sustainability of food security and energy supplies; and the Family Investment Office which includes the management of the family’s rural estates.  He supports charities and other institutions personally, by patronage, and has had a very wide range of interests in this field.  He has been a member of The Prince’s Council of the Duchy of Cornwall, Chancellor of the University of Keele, Chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University and is presently Chancellor of the University of Chester .  He chairs the Nuffield Trust for the Armed Forces and his own charitable trust, the Westminster Foundation, supports many UK registered charities, including a range of military charities.  The Duke is a countryman and enjoys country sports.  He takes an interest in rural issues through organisations such as the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust and the Atlantic Salmon Trust.

 

He has had a long and distinguished career in the Territorial Army, joining as a trooper in 1970 and going on to command his Regiment, the Queen’s Own Yeomanry, in the mid 1990s.  Subsequently, he held a variety of staff appointments and became a Major General in 2003, when appointed to be the Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff for Reserves and Cadets in the Ministry of Defence – thereby being the first reserve officer to hold that rank since before WW2.  He has recently been much involved in the current review of the future of the Reserves, retiring from the post of Deputy Commander Land Forces in September 2012.  Since then he has focused on the proposed Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre project, where the intention is to create a 21st century rehabilitation facility for the armed services and the Nation.
